MAI-Thinking-1

MAI-Thinking-1 is Microsoft’s first reasoning model, built entirely in-house by the Microsoft AI Superintelligence Team. It’s a mixture-of-experts model with roughly 1 trillion total parameters and 35B active per token, a 256,000-token context window, and was trained from scratch on clean, commercially licensed data, part of Microsoft’s stated push toward AI self-sufficiency independent of OpenAI. It’s in public preview via Microsoft Foundry.
